Outdoor Maternity Photography

in Surrey & South-East England

Pregnancy is a crazy, all-at-once bundle of emotions – which we all experience in different ways. As a Professional Maternity Photographer based in Surrey, I capture this incredible journey for you through amazing images. Outdoor sessions available all across South-East England.

Capturing your pregnancy in a unique way

Beyond « taking pretty pictures », my mission as a maternity photographer is to create unique, stunning images and tell the story of your pregnancy.

Pregnancy photos should feel intimate and personal, elegant but always natural and genuine. Very simply they should look like you.

Services

Maternity photoshoots can be organised outdoors, at your home, or in a studio. I personally recommend shooting outside between April and October, to capture the season.

Prior to the session, I will help you to prepare each aspect of it (clothing, make-up, location, ambiance, poses, general aesthetic). We will use online consultation(s), documentation and moodboards so that the photoshoot takes place under the best possible conditions.

On the day, I will guide you through the basics of posing for the best results, whilst keeping a natural look.

FAQs – Maternity Photoshoots

One of the most important questions to ask yourself is when is the best time to hold a photo shoot with a mum-to-be? This type of photo shoot needs to be carried out at a specific time, in order to get a nicely rounded tummy but also to avoid the session being uncomfortable for the mother-to-be.

During the first two trimesters, your tummy won’t stand out enough in the photos, and the mother-to-be may suffer from various ailments that make the session difficult. It’s essential that the session is pleasant and fun, which is why it’s best to wait longer.

A session is possible from the sixth month, but we generally recommend doing your shoot at the end of the third trimester, between the seventh and eighth months (i.e. between week 28 and week 32). We’ll then have a lovely baby bump with a mum who’s still able to pose, and you’ll be able to receive your shots before your baby is born.

After the thirty-second week, full-term delivery and the risk of premature birth can add an extra level of stress and fatigue. What’s more, the baby can then be carried quite low, which will reduce the rounded shape of the belly.

We strongly recommend that you plan well in advance, typically at least two months in advance. We also recommend that you plan several dates (a preferred date but also a plan B or even a plan C). As most of our shoots take place outdoors, we are very dependent on the weather. Note that with medical appointments and other preparations linked to the birth, your calendar will fill up very quickly in the last few weeks. You may also want to use the photos from your shoot to announce the sex of the baby, for example.

Because of the greater weight of babies and the greater risks involved, it’s best to schedule your session sooner. In particular, premature births are much more frequent in this case.

In the case of twins or triplets, it is advisable to bring the date forward to between the sixth and seventh months (i.e. between the twentieth and twenty-fourth weeks).

Yes, that’s right! More and more couples are realising in advance that this is a special moment in their lives and their story as a couple. It’s even becoming a tradition for families with several children, and it’s a great way to dress up the walls of the house in a touching way.

A pregnancy session generally lasts between forty-five minutes and an hour and a half. This will depend on the type of images we want to obtain, the level of tiredness/energy of the mother-to-be, any travel between different locations and any changes of clothes/outfits. Together we will define the format that best suits your needs.

There will be plenty of breaks to allow the mother-to-be to rest. These breaks will be accentuated and more frequent if the chosen location involves some travel.

During the session, we will alternate between spontaneous situations (bursts of laughter, cuddles, rest, etc.) and semi-directed poses.

This working method produces photos that are both authentic and visually rich.

The Perfect Moments approach is based on alternating spontaneous moments and semi-directed shots. The advantage of this method is that you get a wide variety of looks and feels in the shots, capturing laughter as well as moments of pure tenderness. It also gives the session a rhythm and a playful feel.

In terms of posing, your session will be preceded by twenty to thirty minutes of coaching to explain the main rules of posing and my working method. We’ll then guide you through the shoot and talk with you constantly. Everyone is different, and it’s important to adapt the poses to each person 😉

Yes, we guide you throughout the session. Posing when you’re not used to it can be intimidating, and it’s our job to help you relax 🙂

Pregnancy photography, like portraiture or couple photography, relies on a relationship of trust between client and artist. We’ll show you examples of the images we’ve created to help you make your choice.

Being pregnant is a huge upheaval for both the woman and the couple in general. A pregnancy session should therefore be approached as a moment for both of you, but also as an exceptional moment for the mother and the future newborn. This moment in life guarantees exceptional shots that will complement the couple or family photos that will be taken at a later date.

Depending on your preferences, we can carry out your pregnancy shoot in the studio, at your home or on location.

The studio is ideal if you want a particular light (such as chiaroscuro) or a minimalist atmosphere.

Your home is ideal in terms of comfort and privacy, just make sure you have somewhere with plenty of light (large windows) and a clean interior design.

If you want a richer experience in terms of colour, environment and light, then an outdoor shoot is for you. Perfect Moments will help you choose the most suitable location anywhere in England.

Yes, absolutely! The first thing to do is to ask yourself what visual effect you want to achieve. Think about doing some research on the internet to find examples of what you want to achieve. You can then discuss this with your photographer. In addition to this, here are a few essential elements to include in your preparation:

Avoid clothes with patterns or big logos
Don’t wear anything too tight just before the shoot, as this could leave marks on the skin during the session.
It is common to visit your hairdresser, make-up artist or beautician before your session.

As for the material and style of dress, it all depends on your tastes. A beautiful summer dress, lace, etc.? In this case, you can use items from your wardrobe or, if you want to treat yourself, buy an outfit just for the occasion. Many accessories, such as hats, will help to accentuate the atmosphere of the day.

If you want an original and extraordinary effect, the famous « flying dresses » give a magnificent effect.

Many accessories can be added if you wish to announce the child’s sex or simply have fun during the session: little baby booties, ultrasound scan, first cuddly animal, bracelet or jewellery…

Each shoot includes preparation for the session (telephone/video interview and preparation), posing coaching on the day of the session, shooting time, reworking of each of your images using professional software such as Lightroom or Photoshop, creation of a secure online gallery and sending of your HD files.

By default, your photos are delivered to you in electronic format (JPEG) in high definition. They have no logo and are free for private use. You are free to print them and publish them on social networks. Perfect Moments can also create your album on request. You can choose from a wide range of papers, covers and finishes.

A pregnancy photo session is available with our studio from £200 (session only). Additionally, you will purchase your photos. This starts at £110 for 10 images.

The number of outfits you choose depends entirely on your vision and the variety you want to achieve. We generally recommend a minimum of two outfits (one favourite, one spare) and a maximum of three.

You can choose between ten and thirty retouched photos.

Depending on our activity and the season, we generally deliver within two weeks of the shoot being completed. The photos are displayed in an online gallery, where you can choose your favourites.
